White Egret Basking in the Sun, An Original Painting by Jimmie

White Egret Basking in the Sun is an original acrylic painting on a 18 by 12 inch gallery wrapped canvas with edges painted black.

What do you think about it?  Do you think of the wind blowing through it's feathers and the brightness of the mid day?  I hope so, as that was the inspiration I had during the work.  My reference photo had great movement for painting the bird, but the background was drab and typical, so I used a portrait approach to add more color and interest.  Seabirds are very interesting to watch.  This little guy was standing on one leg with the other lifted high up out of sight posing just for me.

I hope you enjoy my blog and if you wish to purchase prints, please email me.  The original painting has sold.

God Bless You,

Old River Wharf in Matagorda

Old RiverWharf in Matagorda is my most recent oil painting on a 11 x 14 inch gallery wrap canvas.  The edges are painted and the painting is ready to hang without a frame.

The work required detailing of the water reflections and the old wharf.  The white egret was a bit easier to paint.

The original painting is $200 plus shipping and handling.  If you wish to purchase an original or a different size of print than below, email jimmie@jimmiesart.com.

Prints are also available.

White Egret Acrylic Painting

I finished reworking a painting today that I did in 2009.  I didn't like the background on the first painting and decided to do more to it.  I also did some work on the egret.  We see white objects as white, but really they are full of reflected light, shadows, and colors. I tried to pick up the values of these missed opportunities in the first painting.  Thanks for visiting.

God Bless You,

Brazos River Bait Camp, Original Oil Painting (Alla Prima)

This is an oil painting I did today of the Brazos River Bait Camp.  It is painted on a 6x8 gesso'd masonite board.  The camp is located in a bayou off the Brazos River in Coastal Texas.  There are many birds in the coastal wet lands of Texas.  Herons and egrets are plentiful and we often see other species such as the roseate spoonbill.  Farther down the coast in the Aransas Pass Refuge you might get lucky and see a whooping crane.  Also there is a new nature center near Bay City, Texas that has a lot of wildlife and birds which is frequented by bird watchers, photographers, and painters.  I hope you like this little painting of a piece of Texas.

Great White Egret Painting

Great White Egret, Acrylic, 12 x 18 gallery wrap, edges painted,

This is the great white egret I painted earlier this week.  I am proud of this painting as I made the stretcher bars, stretched the canvas on the bars and then painted it alla prima...

My wife took a picture of this guy at the Matagorda Harbour on the inland waterway a couple of months ago.  This painting is so unique in composition in the pose of the egret perched on a log branch above the water.  Look at those toes and length of his legs!  We have been chasing egrets and herons all over the coast for years and were thrilled to get a reference picture this good to paint from.  The weathered logs really added to the scene.  I changed the background to a darker blue to gain more contrast.  I had intended on painting in all the wave action behind the egret as in the photo, but decided it would not add much and probably make the scene look too busy.
