White Egret Basking in the Sun, An Original Painting by Jimmie

White Egret Basking in the Sun is an original acrylic painting on a 18 by 12 inch gallery wrapped canvas with edges painted black.

What do you think about it?  Do you think of the wind blowing through it's feathers and the brightness of the mid day?  I hope so, as that was the inspiration I had during the work.  My reference photo had great movement for painting the bird, but the background was drab and typical, so I used a portrait approach to add more color and interest.  Seabirds are very interesting to watch.  This little guy was standing on one leg with the other lifted high up out of sight posing just for me.

I hope you enjoy my blog and if you wish to purchase prints, please email me.  The original painting has sold.

White Pelicans, an Original Oil Painting by Jimmie Bartlett

White Pelicans is an oil painting on a 36 by 30 inch gallery wrap canvas with edges painted black.

I have been working on these guys for several months, as time permitted, because of our full show schedule.  The setting for the painting is on Matagorda Beach where hundreds of white pelicans and a large variety of sea birds were enjoying a sunny winter day. In this painting, there were so many small birds following the pelicans around it looked confusing, so I chose three pelicans and included enough sea birds to make it more interesting.

The bright whites of the birds and pelicans created some over exposures on my reference phots, but I was able to compensate with off white mixes using a variety of colors and earth tones.  Gulls are much easier to paint as they really deal more with the gray scale ie light to dark blacks.  I prefer to use paynes grey instead of black.

The original is for sale.  Giclee fine art prints on canvas and archival paper are available.  Contact me for information on limited edition prints of White Pelicans.

I hope you enjoy the painting and have a blessed day.

Lighthouse with Stripes, Original Acrylic Painting

Lighthouse with Stripes is painted on a 10 x 8 inch canvas hardboard.  It is no particular lighthouse, just one out of my imagination while doing some painting at the last Peddler Show.  I painted this one using a free style approach with no references.

On a given bright sunny day, the beach is flat and sandy with a light wind creating gentle wave action. The gulls are looking for their next snack.

As with all art work I do at shows, I check the work and make necessary improvements when I get home  in the studio.

Thanks for visiting the blog.

Little Beach Bird, Original Oil Painting

I finished the second painting of the bird on the beach.  I like to paint groupings of related subjects and plan to add more to the sea bird list.  Sounds like an excuse to go to the beach and marshes for pics and inspiration.  Hope you like the painting.

A Little Bird on the Beach, Original Oil Painting

This little shore bird is painted on a 8 x 10 gallery wrap canvas in oils.  I have another view of him in progress and should finish it soon.  We are fortunate to live within a half hour driving time of the Gulf of Mexico.  Hope you like the painting.  (Sold)

A Matagorda Beach Sunrise Oil Painting

This one was finished yesterday.  I painted it in oils on a gallery wrapped canvas.  The challenge of the contrasting values in the daybreaking light was fun.   I plan to do some larger canvases of ocean scenes as I really like to paint water movement.  Painting a scene puts me there while I am at the easel.
I hope you like this one.  Email me if you wish to purchase.

Let us pray before we paint,
