Portrait of a Spirited Horse is original art work painted in acrylics on a 18 by 12 inch gallery wrapped canvas. The horse was posing in his trailer and it was a perfect composition to use as a reference for painting. I painted the portrait in a realistic mode and worked to capture the important features. The palette uses nearly all of the earth tones and some green to paint the rope. I used Payne's Gray enstead of black, and like the way it harmonized with the painting.
I will be offering this painting at my art shows, but should you have an interest in this horse portrait or commission work, contact me at Jimmie@jimmiesart.com. I plan to have limited edition prints available soon.
Many Thanks to my good friend Dianne for the use of her photo.
God Bless You,
Jimmie Bartlett

Cody, An Original Oil Painting
I finished Cody this week after several settings of painting him in layers and tweaking the features to make him identifiable as the unique horse he was. This commission is painted on a 20 by 16 inch canvas in oils. I hope you like the background with a soft cosmic approach to push the image forward. The colors were mixed to represent his summer coat and I tried to capture the likeness of his mane, blaze, and face realistically.
One eventful story about this horse:
The lady that owned and loved him entered a fund raiser barrel race. She had never ridden in a barrel race, but Cody had earlier in his life. She let him have his head and he ran the barrels without missing a lick! All she could do was to hang on. A horse with a strong heart.
I hope you enjoy the painting and the story of a very memorable horse.
May God Bless You,

Texas Barn, Original Acrylic Painting
24 by 36 inch Acrylic Painting
Sold
There are several paintings I haven't blogged about as they were painted before starting this blog and this painting is one I am very proud of. It is one of my first large paintings.
I painted the Texas Barn with acrylics on a huge 24 by 36 inch stretched canvas in 2005. The inspiration for the painting came during a vacation trip in the Texas hill country after seeing a few old barns with Texas Flags painted on them. I wanted to put the composition I had envisioned on a large canvas with a barn as the focal point in remote woods with horses and cows in the scene. So, from out of my head and some photo references, the composition came together. The painting is of no particular barn or location. I just wanted to express the remoteness and expanse of the country in Texas, away from the fast pace of urban life and noise. Some of my thoughts in doing the work: the bull standing in the shade of the barn checking things out, the mare looking at you, how many generations worked the ranch, how old is the tractor with stud wheels, the cattle in the background gently grazing, and the sounds of the windmill lifting the gift of water. I hope you enjoy the painting as much as I did painting it.
God Bless You,

The Appaloosa On Matagorda Beach

I put a giclee of this painting on stretcher bars yesterday and thought it would make a good post. This is one of my favorites. I worked on the original (16 x 20 acrylic) for several months last year. I would paint on it over and over again. I wanted the image to capture the spirit I saw in him on Matagorda beach. Eager to run, proud and strong. A magnificant animal. I have a couple of horse paintings in the works now and hope to have them ready for fall shows.
Go Paint,
Jimmie
