Blue Heron on the Hunt

Blue Heron on the Hunt is a 24 by 12 inch original acrylic painting on a gallery wrap canvas.  The painting is of a Blue Heron at Matagorda, Texas on the inland waterway feeding in the shallows.  These birds are very interesting to watch and are hard to get a good picture of them.  A textured rocky shore line is in the painting using a pallet knife to give the painting a realistic effect.  The vertical canvas was perfect for this work and ready to hang out of the box.  This is a real fine art painting to add color and nature to the home or office.  I am very pleased with the outcome and hope you enjoy it also.  The original has sold, but you can purchase prints from our website: bartlettpairart.com

Eagle Eye, original oil painting

I decided to change the name of American Eagle No.2 to Eagle Eye as it is more fitting for this painting. (changed 9/12/17).

Eagle Eye is an original oil painting on a stretched 8 x 10 inch gallery wrap canvas.  The portrait composition features an American Eagle with his head looking left with emphasis on the eyes of determination.
I always enjoy the challenge of the work painting various birds and their distinct features.  I am very pleased with the work and hope you enjoy it also.

Butterfly on the Bougainvillea, original painting by Jimmie Bartlett

Butterfly on the Bougainvillea is a 24 by 20 inch mixed media acrylic/oil painting on a gallery wrap canvas.  The painting is of a butterfly feeding on the flowers in our garden.  I painted a small study (6 x 8 inches) of this picture several years back with intentions of a follow up large format painting much sooner than now.  The work was done in layers of paint in which the initial first layer and edges was done in acrylics with the remaining layers done in oils.  The larger painting is filled with more detail and blends to amplify the colors of both the butterfly and flowers. This is a real painting sure to add color and interest for the home or office.  I am very pleased with the work and hope you enjoy it also.

The Girl at the Loom, a fine art original acrylic painting by Jimmie

Girl at the Loom is an original acrylic painting on a stretched 16 x 20 inch canvas.  The painting features a mid eastern girl dressed in traditional clothing working at a loom to create a garment.

I enjoyed the challenge of the work involved to create this painting.  The composition of multiple objects, and a beautiful young girl working the threads on the loom, was very intriguing.  The decisions of how detailed I needed to paint to get the result of realistic representation took some effort.

I hope you like the results.  If you are interested in purchasing the painting, please see https://bartlettpairart.com/product/girl-at-the-loom-painting/

Bartlett Pair Art, our new website

The links to our new website where you can purchase our arts and crafts are at the top of this blog!

My wife and I have been building a new wordpress website for several weeks and have it substantially populated with our art work products.   I decided to go with the word press platform because it is open source and has the ability to use many more features, that I would have most likely had to purchase for site drag n drop builders.  We needed a flexible site for promoting our art/crafts.  One with a good platform for content and an ecommerce shop.  And, an easy way to promote with social networking.

We have already loaded enough products to start advertising as we add more.  I am excited about what we have accomplished and for the expectations.  I invite you to visit us and view our art works at:

Pelican Splash

Pelican Splash, 24 x 36 inches, Acrylic Paining by Jimmie Bartlett
I completed the acrylic painting 'Pelican Splash' today after self critiquing it for two days which included visual in natural light and low light conditions, taking pictures, and running a proof print.  I made some final touch ups during the critique and felt good enough to run a 20 x 30 canvas gallery wrap print which turned out great!  Next step was to make sure the files were saved.

My wife and I were taking pictures of pelicans in Palacios, Texas and was fortunate to get several great pictures of pelicans. I was sitting on the bank of the Tres Palacios Bay taking pics while some fisherman were cleaning fish and tossing the remains in the bay. This big fellow practically flew into my lens hurrying to get a free meal and landed within a few feet of me!  He is an adult male brown pelican and was an excellent specimen to paint.  I used my photo reference to get started but for the most part painted him to suit my preferences.

Pelican Splash is for sale and prints are available.

Little Hungry Bird

Photography Prints
The closest identity I could find in my bird book for this little guy is a "Bay-Breasted Warbler". We have a lot of these working our feeders in our yard. Some have more color than others. They are a busy body little creature and entertaining to watch.

If you can find a more specific identification of this bird, send it to me in the comments section or my email.

Much Appreciated,

Palacios Harbor

This beautiful photograph is typical of the hundreds of shrimp boats and yachts that moor there. I like the colors and reflections in the smooth water. Also, there are several large industrial marine facilities located there which can completely rebuild and overhaul these large vessels. Palacios is a small community built on the shrimping industry and is also a great place for tourists. Sea birds are plentiful and follow the boats looking for a meal.

Feeding the Birds

Here is Red Bird and a couple of Bluebirds I was lucky enough to get photos of today. Carolyn refilled the bird feeders this morning and they are chowing down!

We have several feeders and two bird baths in the yard your house and they are visited by numerous species of birds all the time.  Many of my paintings are from photos of birds and animals visiting in our yard.  I put up three blue bird houses and they nest in them every year.  We have observed their habits and enjoyed the 'first flights' out of the nests.  If you love to watch birds, providing feed and water will bring them to your place.  I love living in the country and getting to enjoy God's creations.

God Bless You.

Texas Market Guide, Check Them Out!

Texas Market Guide

I don't normally give praise to arts/craft show promoters, but the Texas Market Guide team is exceptional.  They are the most friendly and positive promoter I have met.  And shoppers, you will enjoy their shows full of unique items to see and purchase.  TMG is a family operated company and are also seasoned vendors creating shows for vendors to sell their art, craft and fine wares.   At this time I have participated in three of their shows and will do more.   One more plug for TMG---Shows are held indoors!

I added a link to my blog for their website http://www.texasmarketguide.com/  in the list of favorite websites in the right side column so you will be able to find it even after this article rolls of the page.

As a vendor, I believe it is up to us to be prepared to have a good show.  A friendly attitude creates sales and friendship.  I hope you will check out the TMG website.

God Bless You,

I like to have a picture in every post.

Flamingo Fluff, an original acrylic painting

Flamingo Fluff is an original acrylic painting on a 10 by 8 inch gallery wrap canvas.

This the first painting I completed in 2017!  I enjoy painting Flamingos as they are so interesting and have so many unique poses.

I chose this pose to paint because the bird was preening and the plumage was fluffed out, hence the source of the title of the art work.  This pallet is fairly easy for the bird.  The warm colors cover the full range from red light to red deep, some aliz. crimson and magenta, and earth tones to calm the brights.  I like to use Payne's gray as my black and some red and green to make my browns for the background.

I started with a light sketch of the major components of the image, but as the work proceeded paint covered the lines, and I was on my own with a reference photo.  My rendition of the bird came out pretty close to the physical attributes and turned out believable.  Flamingo Fluff has sold.

I hope you enjoy my art work and blog.

God Bless You,
