Butterfly on Jasmine, Original Acrylic Painting

I finished Butterfly on Jasamine today.  The painting is painted in acrylics and is on a 20x20 gallery wrapped canvas with edges also painted.  Ready hang on your wall.

Springtime weather is coming to South Texas and along with it is increased wildlife activity.  Our jasmine is in full bloom and the bees and butterflies are all over it.  That is until you try to capture a picture of the little beauties.  I chased this colorful butterfly around for a long time (was a windy day) and was able to get several nice photos of it to paint from.  I liked this one and hope you enjoy it also.

Butterfly on Jasmine is for sale.  Email me if you wish to purchase.

Blue Bonnet Field, Original Painting

Sold
I finished the Blue Bonnet Field today. The acrylic painting is on 11 x14 inch gallery wrapped canvas with edges painted.  I chose to use a country side scene with a single tree in the field of blue bonnets and wild flowers.  I used only the brush, paint, and imagination to compose and paint the scene at the easel. The back drop of hills and birds compliment the view by increasing the depth/distance.  A simple palette was used in this alla prima acrylic: white, raw umber, raw sienna, yellow ochre, permanent green, yellow light, cad red light, cerelan blue, light blue, cad blue, touch of pink, white, and a tid bit of purple.

I will be showing the painting at the Hallettsville Market Days this Saturaday.

Let us pray before we paint,

Mexican Lime Oil Painting

We have two Mexican Lime trees that abundantly provide my wife Carolyn with limes for her tea.  Ours produce nearly all year long.  They have small white blossoms and the bees love them.  The fruit turns to a pale yellow when fully ripe.

I painted the Mexican Lime in oils alla prima on a 10 x 8 gallery wrapped canvas.  I had prepared the canvas a couple of months ago with a blue teal left over mix from another painting and have been thinking about what to paint on it.  Kept it simple and used the lime as it was complimentary.  The palette consisted of: yellow light, sap green, green light permanent, yellow ochre, yellow, burnt umber, white and a tad of burnt sienna.  Check my website and etsy in the above menu should you wish to purchase paintings or prints.  I am also a member of Fine Art America which is a great place to buy art.

I hope you like the painting.

Cotton Candy Rose Oil Painting

I finished the Cotton Candy Rose today.  I enjoyed toying around with the different shades of pink and reds.  Subtle shadows make the body of a light colored rose pop and I hope I got there in this one.  The background is a very dark green.  I used a photo of the rose to follow as a guide, but I didn't like the leaves in the photo; so I took license to grow some.  My palette in this 16x16 oil was mainly:  white, aliz crimson, red, blue, green lt, sap green, cad yellow lt, red lt, orang, paynes gray, and some I probably forgot.  LOL

The new year has started off well for us.  I hope the same for you.  You are invited to follow my blog and email me if you have any questions.

Happy New Year,

Pink Poppies

Photography Prints
Freestyle Poppies is one of my first studies I did when learning to paint flowers with oils. I liked it, but as a study, and so it has hung in the studio for several years without a showing. I would like to give it an opportunity to be viewed and find a home. The original is still in my studio hanging above the door. Beautiful prints are available of the Poppies here on FAA. Thanks for looking.

Merry Christmas,

My Favorite Painting For 2012

Art Prints
While I was painting Two Flamingos last February, I had a major surgery which interrupted the progress and of course my simple train of thought. I started painting again within two weeksout of the hospital, starting with about an hour a day, and finished the flamingos a month later. I was about 70 per cent finished before the interruption. I was so happy to have finished it. Prints are available through FAA and my other websites.

I want to wish all a very Merry Christmas and thank God for the life he has given us.
